भारत में भी आज यह समस्या समाज और घरों में प्रवेश कर चुकी है साथ ही शहरी एवं ग्रामीण क्षेत्रों में तेजी से फैलती जा रही है। इस परिस्थिति में समाज के विकास की जो कीमत परिवारों को चुकानी पड़ रही है उसका सही विश्लेषण करने की आवश्यकता है । कुटुम मनुष्य के सामाजिक एवं व्यक्तिगत विकास की स्वाभाविक अवस्था है माता बच्चों की प्रथम गुरु होती है ऐसा कहा जाता है परिवार के अन्य लोग भाई पड़ोसी रिश्तेदार मित्र परिवार कामों के निमित्त आने वाले लोग इन सभी लोगों से होने वाले संवाद इन सभी का बात करने का ढंग बातों की विविधता और इसका असर जाने अनजाने घरों के बच्चों पर होता रहता है। किसी भी बात का अंदाज परिवार के लोगों से बांटने की आदत अपनी छोटी-छोटी समस्याओं का हल निकालने घर के अन्य लोगों की मदद लेने की आदत परिवार व्यवस्था के कारण होती है। बच्चे स्कूल जाने के पहले से उसका यह विकास प्रारंभ हो जाता है इसीलिए परिवार का महत्व को नकारना असंभव है।
संयुक्त परिवार की व्यवस्था तेजी से होते पश्चिमी अंधाधुन करण के कारण लगभग काल बद्ध र्होती जा रही है। परंतु इसके लाभ और उपयोगिता को नकारा नहीं जा सकता। अपितु व्यक्तिगत सामाजिक और आर्थिक दृष्टि से यह अत्यंत लाभकारी है इसी प्रकार प्रत्येक व्यक्ति की क्षमता विविधता तथा गुण दोषों के कारण परिवार सामूहिक दृष्टि से सशक्त एवं कल्याणकारी बनता है। इस प्रकार परिवार की दृष्टि कर्ण की प्रतिक्रिया चालू करने के कारण परिवार समाज और देश सुदृढ़ बनता है।
परिवार व्यवस्था वास्तव में हमारी पारंपरिक एवं सांस्कृतिक धरोहर वाला शक्तिपुंज है ।इस व्यवस्था से ही हम आर्थिक वैज्ञानिक विकास के साथ सामाजिक स्वास्थ्य एवं सुदृढ़ीता टिकाऊ बना सकते हैं। इसलिए परिवार या संस्था व्यवस्था कैसे अधिक कार्यशील जीवन्त और सुदृढ़ बन सकती है। इस दृष्टि से विचार और कार्य करने की आवश्यकता है। वर्तमान परिस्थितियों के संदर्भ में कुछ समय ने कुल परिवर्तन कर इसे व्यापक और स्थाई बनाना हम सभी के विकास के लिए आवश्यक है।
