बात सत्रहवीं शताब्दी की है जब भारत देश पर मुग़ल शासक नादिर शाह ने आक्रमण किया था। उसने दिल्ली को तबाह कर दिया था और लूट-मार का एक खौफनाक मंजर बन गया। उसकी सेना ने बड़े पैमाने पर नरसंहार किए। इस नरसंहार के बीच शाह की सेना ने कई महिलाओं को बंदी भी बनाया।
कहा जाता है उसकी सेना ने लगभग 2 हजार महिलाओं को बंदी बना रखा था। ऐेसे में सिखों ने ही इन बंदी महिलाओं को नादिर शाह की सेना के कब्जे से आजाद कराने का फैसला किया था। मगर नादिर शाह की सेना बहुत बड़ी और ताकतवर थी। सिर्फ हौंसले के दम पर संख्या को हरा पाना मुमकिन नहीं था। गुरिल्ला युद्ध रणनीति अपनाते हुए सिखों ने देर रात 12 बजे शाह की सेना पर हमलाकर उसे चौंका दिया। इसके बाद उन्होंने उन औरतों को सुरक्षित घर भी पहुंचाया। इस लड़ाई में कई सिख शहीद भी हो गए। सिखों को आधी रात 12 बजे महिलाओं को आजाद कराने में कामयाबी हासिल हुई थी।
लेकिन इस बात को इतिहास के पन्नों में इतनी जगह नहीं दी, कि लोग इसके बारे में ज्यादा जान सकें। मगर अगर इतिहास को गवाह माना जाए तो सिखों ने नारी सम्मान के लिए एक बड़ी कुर्बानी दी। उस वक्त जाति, धर्म, मजहब का सवाल बहुत छोटा था। ऐसे वीरता और साहस के पर्याय सरदारों को ’12 बज गए’ कह कर उनका मजाक बनाना, उन्हें चिढाना बेहद शर्मनाक है।
