कन्वेंशन का उदघाटन छत्तीसगढ़ किसान सभा के जिला सचिव प्रशांत झा ने किया। अपने संबोधन में उन्होंने किसान विरोधी कानूनों के खिलाफ पिछले 10 महीनों से चल रहे देशव्यापी आंदोलन और तमाम श्रम कानूनों को निरस्त कर मजदूर विरोधी श्रम संहिता लादे जाने के खिलाफ चल रहे मजदूर-किसान आंदोलन का समर्थन किया और कहा कि ये सभी कानून देश की अर्थव्यवस्था को कॉरपोरेटों का गुलाम बना देंगे। उन्होंने कहा कि कोरोना काल में, जब देश की जनता बेरोजगारी और भुखमरी का सामना कर रही है, जब लोगों की आय में लगातार गिरावट के साथ ही देश की जीडीपी में कमी आ रही है, कॉरपोरेटों के मुनाफे दिन दुगुने, रात चौगुने के हिसाब से बढ़ रहे है। यह तथ्य ही मोदी सरकार की जन विरोधी नीतियों की दिशा को बताने के लिए काफी है। किसान सभा नेता ने कहा कि यदि किसानों को उनकी फसल की समग्र लागत का डेढ़ गुना समर्थन मूल्य नहीं मिलेगा, तो उनकी क्रय शक्ति नहीं बढ़ेगी और घरेलू मांग भी नहीं बढ़ेगी। इससे देश की आम जनता की हालत और ज्यादा खराब होगी। इन परिस्थितियों में उन्होंने कोरबा नगर निगम द्वारा नागरिकों पर संपत्ति कर और जल कर का भार लादे जाने और बिजली विभाग द्वारा अनाप-शनाप बिल दिए जाने की भी तीखी आलोचना की और कहा कि इस क्षेत्र की जनता इस तरह के ‘लगान’ को स्वीकार नहीं करेगी।
कन्वेंशन को इंटक के केंद्रीय नेता गोपाल नारायण सिंह, एटक नेता दीपक उपाध्याय और एचएमएस के केंद्रीय नेता रेशमलाल यादव ने भी संबोधित किया। तीनों नेताओं ने कहा कि मोदी सरकार ने अपने सात साल के कार्यकाल में केवल मजदूरों और किसानों के हितों पर हमला ही किया है और निजीकरण करके देश की संपत्ति को बेचने का काम कर रही है। मोदी सरकार लोगों की खून-पसीने से पैदा की गई सरकारी संपत्ति को कौड़ियों के भाव पूंजीपतियों को लूटा देने पर आमादा है। सरकारी उद्योगों के निजी हाथों में जाते ही श्रम कानून को पूर्ण रूप से समाप्त हो जाएंगे और मजदूरों के मौलिक अधिकार खत्म हो जाएंगे। देश की मेहनत कश जनता इसे हरगिज बर्दाश्त नहीं करेगी। उन्होंने 27 सितम्बर को ऐतिहासिक भारत बंद के कार्यक्रम को पूर्ण रूप से सफल बनाने की अपील की।
